An adorable Instagram video from @the_phylaw_pack shows a Staffy named Rosie fully committing to “playing pretend” with three little kids on the floor. The on-screen text reads, “Rosie playing pretend with the kids.” The video shows Rosie, a black Staffy in a blue costume, bouncing between the children as they crawl and giggle through their game.

At one point, the video says, “I’ll free the princess,” as the kids huddle together on a rug and the Staffy noses in like she knows her job. Another caption reads, “I’m gonna get youuuuu,” as Rosie gently follows through, weaving around the kids like she is playing tag. Moreover, the video even throws in a rule for the group: “Everyone gets a lick,” and Rosie circles back for her joyous check-ins.

The video’s caption is pretty telling. It says, “This is why the dog you choose to be a part of your family matters” — and we understand why.

Viewers flooded the comments with love for Rosie and for Staffies in general. One person wrote, “Staffys are such great nanny dogs,” while another joked, “Rosie thanks you for giving her children! Because they are hers now! Lol” A third user wrote, “Pretty sure this is what life is all about.”

Rosie’s “pretend play” is not as mysterious as it looks. Notably, many dogs love playing such games with kids because they are predictable, social, and full of movement, laughter, and attention. When a dog feels safe, and you reward them with pets and praise, they often come back for more, as Rosie does here.

By the end, we know why the Staffy’s video struck such a chord with viewers. It is a core memory for the family, and Rosie is very much a part of it.
